Remember back in April (!!?!!) when I said we were going to rip out the carpet? (BUHAHAHAHAHA... *choke* *sputter*.) Yea, well, we finally got around to doing it in June. It was a nasty, smelly, stinky, yucky job. Luckily we have really, really good friends that were kind enough to (get talked into) help us. We couldn't have done it without Della and Jay and Bettina and Gary. And, of course, since I've discovered SmileBox, I just had to make another slide show. Wanna see? Ok.

I told you it was pretty nasty. Then, of course we had to decide what to put down for flooring. After seeing how horrible the carpet was, I was really really hesitant about laying down more. My heart was set on hard wood, but my pocketbook couldn't stand the pressure. So we compromised and got laminate.
Here's Mark laying our new laminate floor. I like how it is going to just open up both rooms. And here's Dean and a friend installing the quarter-round along the baseboards. Right now. I mean, they're still here.Pretty cool, huh? Now I just have to touch up the paint and I'll be done. Whew! But, it was worth it. Every minute and every penny. I haven't had to use my rescue inhaler once since we got that carpet out of the house. Don and I just feel better!
And this had been this summer's remodeling project. Thank God it's over!

I have done that befoe too. It is a mess.
I know you love those new floors!
We just got done ripping up the carpet in our basement family room. Our sump pump failed to work when the power went out and we got about 3" of water in our basement. We're redecorating the entire basement!! We're not putting down carpet anymore either...we will probably put down some cheap linoleum and get some cool rugs because I want it to be replaceable a bit easier than this nasty carpet was, in case of more water!! I love your new floor and would consider laminate if we didn't have to worry about water anymore! Altho, this is the first time in 30 years we've had water in our basement...it was just a comedy of errors!!
And I can easily believe everybody is breathing better. It looks grand!
We ripping carpet tomorrow!
LOVE love love your room colors! My nephew helped me rip up carpet in the family room four years ago now, I didn't know what I'd put down instead, maybe wood, maybe laminate, maybe tile, maybe cork, maybe ...
Instead what I found was bare concrete that was actually very interesting looking, with swirls from the original tiles' glue, some green colors from who-knows-what. Four years later, it's still bare -- and I love it!
What a job! We lived in an apartment that had 20-year-old pink carpeting that was nasty. I'm sure that it had mold and other...stuff, in it. When we moved into a hardwood floor apartment, we felt so much better. Love the wall colors in your house!
Good heavens. What an ordeal! I enjoyed your slideshow so much I used the same vendor to create something at my site.
Laminate is a great alternative. I know of several people in addition to myself who have it in their homes and no one can tell the difference - and if they can, who cares! LOL.
Your home looks lovely. xoxo
